Where to Find Plus Size Halloween Costumes
Online retailers with plus size costumes:
Party City – they have several costumes listed in the plus size category but the largest I found was a 5x and there was only ONE in that size. If you’re on the larger end of the fat spectrum, this probably won’t be a good place to shop.
Costume Super Center – “True style knows no size, especially when it comes to Halloween. That’s why, in addition to our standard selection of Halloween costumes, we’re so proud to offer an extensive selection of women’s plus size costumes and men’s plus size costumes. Halloween is the one night of the year that everybody can let loose and be who they want to be, from a pirate to a princess, or an astronaut to an angel. Find your perfect plus size costume for Halloween or any dress-up event!” (source: costumesupercenter.com)
I like that they have their costumes broken down into different categories:
I didn’t like that most of the plus size costumes had weird sizing. For example, this Plus Size Pink Poodle Skirt Costume was a size 14-18:
And this Plus Size Elvira Costume was a size 16-22:
And I just love that they classified a Wonder Woman Costume in an XL plus size (shaking my head) π
Local costume rental store with plus size options. Here in my neck of the woods, there’s Center Stage Clothiers. Diana, whom I know personally, is the owner and she’s a sweetheart! I’ve never rented anything from her store but when I asked her about plus size costumes she said she does carry some.
Thrift stores for unique, customizable finds. Before I moved to the Pacific Northwest, I lived in a small town with one Goodwill and the selection of plus-size clothing sucked. Here in the PNW where I’m at… OMG the Goodwill’s are amazing and have such huge selections of plus-size items!
When it comes to thrifting, your plus-size Haloween costume ideas are only as limitless as your imagination… and the selection of items you can find at your local thrift store of course π
Amazon – of course I can’t forget them. I have found some great plus size options but their plus size clothes seem to be hit or miss meaning they either fit or they don’t feel like plus size clothes at all!
3 Styling Tips for Plus Size Halloween Costumes
- Emphasize your favorite features! Play up your best assets to feel confident and comfortable in your costume. If you love your legs, choose a costume that shows them off with a shorter hemline or sleek tights. For those who adore their curves, opt for body-hugging styles or add a belt to accentuate your waist. Remember, Halloween is the perfect time to celebrate your body and showcase what makes you feel fabulous!
- Use shapewear for added comfort and confidence if you want. Invest in quality shapewear to smooth out lines and provide extra support where you want it. Look for pieces that target specific areas, like high-waisted shorts for tummy control or a full bodysuit for all-over smoothing. The right shapewear can help your costume fit better and make you feel more secure as you enjoy the Halloween festivities. Just make sure to choose breathable, comfortable options that won’t detract from your overall enjoyment of the night.
- Accessorize to elevate your costume game. The right accessories can take your Halloween costume from good to great! Use props, jewelry, and other add-ons to enhance your look and make it more authentic.
For example, a witch costume can be transformed with the right hat, broom, and spooky jewelry. Don’t be afraid to go all out with wigs, temporary tattoos, or special effects makeup to really bring your character to life. Accessories are also a great way to customize a store-bought costume and make it uniquely yours.
There you have it, ghouls and goblins β a cauldron full of spooktacular plus size Halloween costume ideas for 2024!
Whether you’re channeling your inner superhero, embracing your dark side, or recreating a pop culture icon, remember that the best accessory for any costume is confidence. So strut your stuff, own your look, and have a hauntingly good time this Halloween.
